Club Guy and Roni’s The Human Odyssey is a series of dance and music performances with dance companies and music ensembles from all around the world, looking beyond the Eurocentric gaze.
It is an ambitious exploration of different aspects of the human experience, redefining the narratives we construct about each other and the world. We explore and represent in dance how universal human concepts and narratives shape our lives and how we view them from different cultures and lives. The Human Odyssey is made to offer insights and new perspectives on our collective human story. The cross-cultural exchanges provide tremendous impetus to ambitions to broaden dance languages.
Recent successful collaborations happened with makers, performers and companies from Morocco, Australia, Mauritania, India and Senegal. Building on these experiences and the questions raised, the Club continues the “odyssey” by exploring how we construct society, communities, meaning, belonging and transcendence. Rather than focusing on fixed themes or locations, we explore rituals, collectivity, conflict, and transformation. It moves through different cultural forms, subcultures, and embodied practices – sometimes in dialogue with other traditions, sometimes by excavating what already exists close to home.
This season Club Guy & Roni received both The Golden Swan (lifetime achievement award for choreographers) and the Jiří Kylián Ring (for their artistic vision, interdisciplinary innovation, and their long-standing commitment supporting new generations of makers).
Next up: THE CURRENT
THE CURRENT by Club Guy & Roni, Boris Acket, HIIIT, South African writer Ronelda S. Kamfer and composers/musicians Max Frimout and Stanislav Tolkachev, is set to premiere in October 2026.
The performance brings the physical language of club culture to the stage, approaching clubbing as a communual form of resistance. The work moves between holding your ground and navigating collective pressure.
Stanislav Tolkachev is one of the most prominent techno producers of the 2 past decades. The Ukrainian is renowned for his unique signature and will be composing and live performing together with the musicians of HIIIT and dutch sonologist Max Frimout.
The text for the performance is written by South African poet Ronelda S. Kamfer, exploring inclusion and exclusion, and will be performed live by actress and singer Sarah Janneh.
The audience won’t be seated, but will be standing, moving in a shared space with the performers in an interactive, installation-like design by Boris Acket.

DEATH, CLASS and ROMANCE (2027)
In collaboration with Mexican writer, director and actor Davíd Gaitan and Instituo Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literature, Mexico City (INBAL), this performance explores death not as the end of human life, but as the collapse of systems, truths and political narratives, drawing contrasts between Dutch and Mexican perspectives.

BAD NATURE (2025)
Bad Nature premiered on Brisbane Festival 20205, had 35 shows in the Netherlands and performed on Festival de Cannes de Danse, France.
Bad Nature is a powerful, interdisciplinary contemporary dance and performance created through a dynamic cross continental collaboration between Australasian Dance Collective (Australia), Club Guy & Roni (the Netherlands) and Studio Boris Acket.
Since its world premiere at Brisbane Festival (2025), Bad Nature has been acclaimed internationally for its artistic ambition and aesthetic depth, including multiple five-star reviews that highlight its emotional resonance and visual power.
Boris Acket developed a total experience where sound, light and scenography merge into one living organism. The breathing skycloth, the rhythmic light structures responding to the performers, and the tension between nature and technology fuels the entire design.
A one-hour work exploring human relationships with nature, technology, and each other in a post-apocalyptic imagined landscape. The work unfolds through striking imagery — mist, fluctuating light, and a luminous floating cloth — driven by a pulsating live score performed by percussion collective HIIIT. The ensemble of twelve dancers embody ritualistic, visceral movement that oscillates between fluid grace and explosive physicality, creating a hypnotic and immersive experience.
This work pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance, offering an unforgettable experience that speaks to both artistic excellence and global relevance.
FAITH (2024)
The 2024 creation FAITH had it’s world premiere on JULIDANS at International Theater Amsterdam. FAITH is a co-creation with Khalid Benghrib, one of the leading choreographers of contemporary dance in Morocco. Coming from the heart of the sufi universe of the Gnawa and Hmadcha traditions of both of his grandmothers, who were guiding figures of the lilas, ritual nights of invocation and trance, Khalid Benghrib brought dancers and gnawa musicians from Morocco to co-create.
ISLANDS OF EMPATHY (in a sea of chaos) 2023
Griots are the storytellers who keep traditions and history alive with dance, music and poetry. In Senegal, we exchanged with spiritual leaders, dancers and artists about empathy and community. These intercultural conversations form the blueprint for the performance. The performance unfolds itself as a thinking exercise in how to actively empathize with one another.
The music is composed by Thijs de Vlieger- known as THYS- who was the founder of the world famous musical drum’n base act NOISIA. He combines original Senegalese traditional percussion with beats and electronic tracks, live performed by Pape Seck and HIIIT (formerly known as Slagwerk den Haag).

The work is performed by three dancers from Mumbai, India, and five dancers of the Club, with live music by 4 versatile Indian and dutch musicians. It toured intensively in the Netherlands (35 shows) and abroad. Fortune is the opening performance of CPH Stage in the Royal Danish Playhouse in Copenhagen, Denmark 29th+30th of may 2024.

The question of what our, your or my freedom is culminates in the unimaginable story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, which forms the core of our creation: the ongoing physical and political unfreedom of Mohamedou, who unfortunately left the biggest empty seat we have ever had during our premieres.
Co creating with Mohamedou Ould Salahi, who got back his freedom during the tour of this performance, inspired many people around the world. FREEDOM performed all around the Netherlands, opened the Tanzkongress in Mainz, Germany and was shown with great success at SIDance – Seoul, Korea.
