Nachtwacht returns in 2027
Between March and May 2027, Nachtwacht will return to theaters across the Netherlands.
A play about the end – and everything leading up to it
Nachtwacht follows a family during the final phase of their father’s life (“Mr.”). As he prepares for the end, his children try to break free from old patterns and expectations. The performance is about aging, mortality, and care – but also about love, resilience, and the complex roles we play within a family.
With a cast of 23 musicians, dancers, and actors, a physical and musical performance emerges in which disciplines intertwine. The evening slowly comes to life: a heartbeat weakens, falters – and grows into an unstoppable beat. What begins as a recognizable reality shifts into a ritualistic, almost hallucinatory experience in which music and movement take over.
